olds1959special
I just got this DAC and it's amazing. I have tried about 10 DAC's recently and this one works great with my Vandies. I don't want to try to describe the sound too much, but what I like about it is the overall balance, slight warmth, and modest width to the sound. It doesn't feel small, or lacking in any frequency range. It has, for now, replaced my MHDT R2R tube DAC which has moved to another system, and I'm listening to an entirely solid state system now including with the SU-1. I run it from an Apple TV going to Toslink and run from a battery for cleaner power. Edited April 9 by olds1959special

olds1959special
I just sold my Schiit Bifrost 2/64. I got tired of the thick, saturated sound. Instead I bought 3 of the SMSL SU-1 DACs, for all my systems. The USB input makes some light pops when changing songs, but it doesn't bother me. I've now listened to this DAC on my OTL tube headphone amp, tube amp with bookshelf speakers, and solid state amps with my Vandies and it sounds great on all systems. I highly recommend this DAC if you want something that sounds good, not even considering the low price. Edited April 10 by olds1959special
olds1959special
As good as this little dac is, without a tube in the path the sound gets pretty fatiguing fast. I moved my Mhdt lab tube dac back into the system.
