SBlackman
I recently was fortunate to acquire a well maintain set of 2C's. I want to do a much as I can ensure they're set up as well as I can within the constraints of my room/equipment variables. Completely get that a large portion of this is the physical placement of the loudspeakers as well as the subjective nature of said placement and audible results the listener hears (not to mention all the other pieces in the audio chain). I also acknowledge that, sadly, my tinnitus is another variable that impacts EVERYTHING when it comes to set up. My fundamental question is: Can I assume that I can leverage Vandertones and the worksheet provided to help me adjust things? While I suspect that answer is yes - purely from a measurement perspective (and yes, I have the Radio Shack analogue SPL meter), the larger part of this question is, when it comes to making adjustments based on the measurements/targets I assume I need to be able to make appropriate adjustments somehow in my receiver/amp given that the 2's clearly don't have the micro adjustment capabilities that the 7's have, for example. I've searched throughout the forums and the Vandersteen YouTube channel, but haven't found an 'Step-by-Step' guidance for leveraging Vandertones with my 2C's. Don't want to assume that I'm not missing that somewhere.
TomicTime
No, i don’t think you are missing any step by step instructions or video on the specifics of how you might leverage Vandertones with 2 c and when i made the initial suggestion ( which in hindsight was probably not a good idea but may…..inspire others to better understand what is happening below 120 hz in the listening room at the listening position… ) i made the suggestion because you mentioned maybe not needing the sub…. in general…. run vandertones R and L with noted AVR settings that include sub, post results including room dimensions and location of speakers ( all ) in room. include the various sub settings ( gain, phase, etc… ) Repeat with sub off AND AVR set to 2 channel flat no processing, etc… Post results… i regret my initial suggestion but feel need to honestly follow up….. the key is musical enjoyment …my wish for us all…
SBlackman
No apologies necessary @TomicTime. Very much appreciated you offering potential solutions. Yes, your initial thoughts were around my 'to sub or not to sub' dilemma. And - lastly - 100% agree it's all in the musical enjoyment. I will focus my attention on careful listening based on adjustments to speaker location knowing that will likely have the most impactful result given my current setup. I'll still leverage the measurements, if for no other reason than genuine curiosity. The could offer some insights to consider. Note: I've also run the Audyssey MultEQ XT32 setup that is part of my Denon amp - just out of curiosity. I realize that is much more focused on overall HT balance. From a 2.1 channel listening perspective I'm not sure I should rely too much on that tool to necessarily provide configuration guidance.
