olds1959special Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Since my AI Modulus 2C pre-amp has a phono stage, I got an Audio-Technica AT-LP70X turntable. I used to have some vinyl 15+ years ago but sold all my records in favor of going digital. Now I'm curious about vinyl again, so I went to a record store and found this Ethel Waters record, which I'm using to test out the turntable. 3
olds1959special Posted October 15, 2024 Author Posted October 15, 2024 I got another record, so now I have 2. Changing the cables to WBC Mogami 2964 improved the sound, as did cleaning the records with the record cleaning brush.

Looks like you are likely more limber than I am. 😄 Edited October 15, 2024 by Holmz 2
olds1959special Posted October 16, 2024 Author Posted October 16, 2024 (edited) My third record was skipping all over the place, and had to try to repair it with the sharp piece of chopstick, (which sort of worked.) and I already had the album on Apple Music. So I won't buy records anymore unless they are rare recordings that are not available on streaming platforms. The Big Joe Turner record pictured above is one of those. Unfortunately I had slight issues with that one skipping too. I know my turntable is known to not be the best at tracking and the tracking force is pre-set. Since it's hard to find music that's not on streaming I probably won't buy many more records. But I will visit record stores and take my time to look for those things I've never heard. Hopefully the vinyl will be in decent condition too, and not skip. Edited October 16, 2024 by olds1959special
GdnrBob Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 One of the reasons I gave up on vinyl was the number of warped records I bought over the years. I always wondered why turntable manufacturers didn't have a outer ring clamp like VPI. Bob

DC-93 Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 IMO: Elevate the turntable to keep things cleaner. 1
