Been listening to most all my Vaughan Williams on vinyl, and realized I did not own The Sea Symphony (No. 1)  on vinyl. So, rectified that. Just arrived, so taking it for a spin….

Sir Adrian Boult conducts Vaughan Williams

  • A Sea Symphony (No. 1), words by Walt Whitman
  • The Wasps: Aristophanic Suite

London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Choir, Sheila Armstrong soprano, John Carol Case baritone
Angel repress 2LP box 1970, originally 1968

A very nice recording. Well worth the $11 shipped.

With the new Sutherland Engineering Dos Locos phono pre-amp hooked up, and AQ Thunderbird interconnects replacing the previous "Water" wires between the pre-amp and M5-HPAs, I decided to test things out with this King Crimson warhorse, "In the Wake of Poseidon." Still good, and in fact sounds substantially better.

The cover is a gatefold with no text; the image is called "The Twelve Archetypes," which calls to mind Carl Jung's psychological theories, but the image titles don't really match. Anyway it's a great album and it's fun to hear it even more distinctly after all these years. As they say in reviews, I heard things I'd never heard before.
