Why female banana sockets on Vandersteen subs?

I’ve always found it odd,  but there must be a reason behind it.

Because they are adequate (very low current high impedance), affordable, readily available and compact.  The more you know about me these things will become more evident as "form follows function" and I like to put all the money where it counts sonically.

I,  was wondering why 'only bananas'? Why not add a screw down for spades?

I ask this as, the new AQ cables are dang heavy and I like my connections as secure as possible.

There is no reason to use heavy AQ cables for the SUB THREE because it is only a sample wire with a 200k impedance.
