Ground loop suggestions

Think I found my problem. The Sutherland TZ Direct comes with rather long cables between the power supply and the actual phono preamp for a reason. Moving them a few feet farther apart in this temporary hookup made the noise go away.

Hmm, them power supplies really do make noise.

It would be neat if there was an external power supply that could be made to power various equipment that could be kept at a distance so as to minimize noise/distortion/etc.

The AI preamp has an outboard PS.
And the ol’ Nag has their power supply.

I would bet a glass of wine that the PS was interacting with the cartridge itself, via magnetic fields.
Usually a toroidal transformer keeps most of the field inside, but some can sneak out.
If it is not toroidal, then more sneaks out.
But it is hard to see without an internal photo of it.
