stratocaster
Has anyone used the spades sold by Audioquest? I am rearranging the position of my amps and would like to experiment with shorter speaker cable length. Have some great set of wires but am not sure about the Audioquest spade model that would work with the Quatro terminals.
GdnrBob
Yes, they work perfectly with our speakers. B
ctsooner
That’s all I’ve used. Love the fit and finish. Not sure it makes a big difference sound wise, but they work seamlessly

GdnrBob
Well, the main thing is that they fit in between the raised metal pieces (what are they called?) surrounding the connectors. The AQ spades fit exactly! B
ctsooner
Richard uses AQ. It wasn’t difficult to hear why when I sat down with Rutan years ago and listened to a few different cables.

JonM
The AQ spades fit Vandersteens nicely. Some of the Audioquest backshells will touch one another however. This is Ok when the backshells are plastic like they are on Robin Hood bi-wire cables. But, if you are crimping your own spades, you could use heat shrink or nothing at all and have zero problems. AQ does sell loose spades for 3/16, 1/4, and 5/16 binding posts... if you are buying their spades and crimping yourself, you should choose the spade that fits tightest on your particular posts. Oregon
Nordost Red Dawn terminates their cable with banana connectors on both ends. Can someone please recommend "banana to dual spade" bi-wire connector? That is " one banana in, two spades out; 1 banana > 2 spades". Does that thing exist? Nordost might have anticipated barrier strips...

Is it: crimped soldered crimped and soldered? it cannot be that hard can it?
BKDad
The more expensive AQ spade terminals are not crimped. You can see that in the photo suggested above. (Spade Lugs are in section 4) Instead, they are a gas-tight connection made by tightening some set screws in the body of the spade lug. Also visible in that photo. Some time back I shortened a set of AQ cables that used these spade lugs. You just need the right tool to install them. That and some copper paste. (Copper paste). Strong fingers help.

You are better off getting a single banana to spade adapter and using jumpers to biwire. Edited October 17, 2023 by stratocaster
Oregon
Thank you for the clarification/s. My previous set-up was two runs of loudspeaker cable to each loudspeaker. Does the home-made jumper have a sonic liability? What does Richard recommend? Would Vandersteen considering offering such a thing? GdnrBob
Nix on the jumpers and go with either two runs or a double bi-wire that consists of one set of connects at the amp, and splits to two sets of outputs at the speakers. Bob
