ghamilton
I was wondering how much harm is done to the imaging with windows behind speakers?
stratocaster
@ghamilton Looking at your photograph, I wonder if those panels are doing anything at all. If they can be taken off the wall, you can put them on the window and hear for yourself if the windows are impacting the imaging.
ghamilton
Already tried without sound panels and they need to be there. I have been using this room for about 7 yrs with my model ones. I have some extra ones so I may try them on the windows.

What about just using some drapes on the window?
GdnrBob
Or, just drape a blanket over the window- might need a couple of nails to hang it from. Bob
TomicTime
I have found shutters of wood or a dense composite or blinds can be pretty effective….. much better would be a broad band diffuser but WAF might get bent…..
Stringreen
I found in my house that lows easily pass through window glass....(garbage trucks et al easily heard)...whereas highs get bounced off of glass. Not good for flat frequency response. (brick up the suckers)
Holmz
The garbage truck here comes by once a week, but other vehicles are on the road. However the birds make a racket from before the break of dawn to well after dark, and they seem to work in shifts.
Mike Goetz
This is probably not an uncommon occurrence for those of us without dedicated listening rooms. In my case, my listening room is also my living room and my placement options are really limited. I use pleated fabric shades on the windows which provide additional insulation and help filter out noise from the outside. The resulting sound from my 3A Sigs does not appear to be adversely impacted. I have a wide, deep soundstage and the sonic response is smooth and detailed. I am happy with the appearance and the music as is my wife, and I’m not about to change anything.

ctsooner
I put a blanket over my big 65” that is located in the middle of my speakers. What a large difference it makes overall. Not just frequency balance. Everything.

Richard Vandersteen
On my recommendation Dick Hardesty put horizontal wood blinds and adjusted them for proper diffusion. Worked very well for sound and could be adjusted for sight when needed. RV
ctsooner
Thanks Richard. I have a window next to my left speaker that needs better treatment. I've been thinking about getting blinds and trying that as they aren't too expensive (dont' need custom size) . Home Depot here I come. It’s amazing that a slight change in the closure of wooden blinds makes such a huge impact on sound… if I could only figure out how to get more bass then that would be the icing on the cake.. in the meantime I am just going to live with being impressed with the imaging…
Oregon
Windows behind loudspeakers can work, just make the window disappear. In this case the entire window frame is lined with anechoic foam behind heavy drapes. 1

The thieves would need to work as a team, if they are as heavy to carry as they look. Or they might take legal action for a workplace injury🤔

I’d assume the thief is an independent contractor and therefore not covered.
