Coltrane can be a tough listen at times, jagged, then lyrical, cacophonous, working on it...

@Oregon  I agree 100%. Yet some of his output is so engaging that you can close your eyes and before you know it the needle is in the runout groove.

@Ken K  They are great for sure. I haven't listened to his "second" quintet nearly as much as his first though. I love what Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones bring to any recording session.

It's interesting the way all of these musicians back then played on each others albums. It's almost as if all these guys were sidemen called in by the label to play for one another. Grant Green, Stanley Turentine, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter .........

So much music - so little time.

And that too Ken. I get the feeling we have similar tastes in Jazz. Great Sunday sharing our likes with each other. Blue Train is another Coltrane album that has been one of my favorites for a long time.

And as much as  A Love Supreme  is considered his best work, I could never get into it. Have it, tried  to like it many times, never did it for me.

This Duke album arrived yesterday. 45 rpm  ORG  pressing  #67/68. Phenomenal sounding disc that I am now spinning for the 3rd time.

Listening to this one to prepare for seeing the New York premiere of Hillborg's Second Piano Concerto with Emanuel Ax and the New York Philharmonic this weekend.
